Keeping a Relationship Fresh With Date Night

When you are married, things have a tendency to fall into a routine-especially if you have kids. Get up, get the kids ready, go to work, come home, make dinner, get the kids ready for bed, go to bed. Then get up and start it all over again. Sure, you are doing different things, but a lot of the basics tend to stay the same. Thankfully, however, a simple date night can break you out of the monotony. It is funny how having someone with a uniform pant and shirt combo serve you dinner instead of making it yourself can make all the difference. Or maybe your date involves going to the local coffee shop and talking about whatever you want while you sip a latte and munch on homemade scones. The most important thing about date night is not even what you do-it is who you do it with.

When you first start a romantic relationship with someone, it is usually new and exciting for a certain amount of time. The things you do together are all firsts-the first kiss, the first dinner and a movie, the first time you meet his or her parents. But after awhile all those firsts become old hat-things that you do almost day in and day out that begin to get mundane. Setting a date night, or a specified night each month can help you reconnect with your loved one. For once, the only thing you have to talk about is what is going on in each other's lives, or what you're interested in at that moment. And while time can fly on date night, it's important to get your money's worth. Maybe you'll ask the guy in the restaurant uniform to hold off on the check because you are having dessert. Why not? It's date night!

Let's say you work at a restaurant already and the last thing you want to do on your date night is to hang out with more people in uniform jackets. That is understandable, so have your date night somewhere else. Bring a picnic lunch to the park or down by the lake. Share a conversation on a long walk through the woods. Find a bench and a good view of the sunset. Simply spending time alone together is what makes a difference, and what will keep your relationship fresh and strong!
